2010 World Cup Final Tips: Sundaday 11th July

The curtain falls on the World Cup on Sunday night when Spain play Holland in the final. It's been a tournament full of shocks and although it wouldn't be a huge shock to see Holland lift the trophy, it would upset the odds. Spain are favourites and as such, there is plenty of value in backing Holland in what looks an extremely close game and at 11/4 to win in 90 minutes, the Dutch looking a cracking bet. It may also pay to once again back the 3-2 win, it won followers of our tips a few quid last night and if the World Cup final was ever going to be a thriller, it is involving two teams who have shown the ability to score goals throughout the torunament and at a massive 66/1 with Skybet, we an sign off in style.

World Cup Outright Bets

Detailed below are our outright Best Bets of the 2010 World Cup advised before the tournament kicked off.

Bet # 1: World Cup Winner Tip

Brazil odds

Brazil are our main pick to win the 2010 World Cup. No European team has won outside of Europe in the competition and under former World Cup winning captain Dunga this Brazilian team has added steel to the flair you'd usually expect. A solid base of Julio Cesar, Maicon, Felipo Melo and Gilberto Silva set things up for the flair of Kaka, Pato, Fabiano and co and prove an irresistible force.

Add to this Brazil's World Cup pedigree of five times winners, twice beaten finalists and having reached at least the Quarter Finals in nine of the last ten tournaments, you have every reason to be confident about the Samba Kings going all the way in South Africa.

Bet # 2: World Cup Golden Boot Tip

Wayne Rooney odds

Wayne Rooney is an attractive bet in the World Cup Golden Boot market. The Englishman carries the hopes of the nation and is the only guaranteed starter in a forward position for England. Providing he is fit, England have very winnable matches in the group stages versus the United States, Algeria and Slovenia. Wayne Rooney made his debut for England in 2003 and since then he has gone on to score 25 times in 58 appearances for his country. That is a strike rate of 43% and we reckon that if he is anywhere close to producing the goals he scored domestically for Man Utd this season then the 11/1 to be the top goalscorer is South Africa is definitely worth an each-way bet.

Only one of the last six Golden Boot winners played for the World Cup winners (Ronaldo in 2002), however, five of the last six winners did play in the semi finals. Therefore any pick for the Golden Boot has got to stand a chance of progressing to the later stages of tournament and the average number of goals required to win is six.

It is also worth taking a look at the odds on Miroslav Klose in this market. The Germany striker has scored five goals in each of the past two World Cups, finishing runner up in 2002 and winning the honour four years ago. The 33/1 available about Klose winning the Golden Boot represents an excellent value (each way) bet about a player and his team who have proven World Cup pedigree.

Bet # 3: World Cup Group Tips

Holland odds

Group betting is very popular in the World Cup and there are usually some excellent prices available. We've come up with a nice looking treble at slightly longer odds picking out three nations to qualify from their World Cup groups. Firstly, as a banker we think that the Netherlands are a shoe-in to qualify from Group E. They'll probably top the group consisting of Cameroon, Denmark and Japan. Second up is Serbia, a 5/6 chance to qualify from Group D, which contains Germany, Ghana and Australia. They Serbs are solid defensively and could surprise a few at the World Cup. Add these two treble with Paraguay to qualify at 1/2, who are in a Group F that consists of Italy, Slovakia and New Zealand. The Paraguayan team are a very close knit group with the majority of the squad playing their football in South America and qualified well in third for the World Cup. The treble on all three 'to qualify' pays 21/10 with Victor Chandler, so if you are looking for some extra value you might want to do the same treble but with the Netherlands to win their group (8/15) and the other two teams to qualify, boosting the odds on the treble to around 10/3.

World Cup Group treble
Holland to win Group E (8/15)
Serbia to qualify from Group D (5/6)
Paraguay to qualify from Group F (1/2)
£20 on this treble pays £84.05 with Victor Chandler.

Bet # 4: Top African Nation

Nigeria odds

With the World Cup being played in Africa for the first time, much attention will be focused on the performances of the African nations. Ivory Coast is the favourite to win the top African team market but being drawn in Group G alongside Brazil and Portugal gives Sven Goran Eriksson's side a huge task to overcome and if they can finish second they are likely to face Spain in the last 16. Therefore, it is worth a bet on Nigeria at 4/1 with Bet365 to be the African nation to go all the furthest in the competition. They stand a good chance of going through Group B as runners up to Argentina and have a squad of experienced internationals, playing in Europe's best leagues and in Lars Lagerback, they have a coach who has guided Sweden to the knock out rounds in the past two World Cups.

Top African Nation

Bet # 5: To Concede most Goals

North Korea odds

Making their first appearance at the World Cup finals since 1966, the 2010 World World Cup could poses a daunting challenge for North Korea. The prospect of group games against Brazil, Portugal and Ivory Coast who all posses multiple goalscoring threats doesn't bode well for the lowest ranked team in the competition.

Paddy Power are offering odds on which team will concede the most goals in South Africa and at 11/2, North Korea certainly look a good bet to be the tournament's whipping boys.
