Reigning world champions Spain were one of the favourites to win the 2014 World Cup. The Spaniards produced a stunning performance to win in South Africa in 2010 but they failed to do the same in Brazil getting knocked out at the group stage. The Spaniards had been drawn in Group B at the World Cup alongside the team they beat in the 2010 final Holland, Chile and Australia.
A 5-1 thrashing at the hands of the Netherlands on Friday night in Spain's first game was no fluke as Chile were the next team to benefit from Spain's downfall with a 2-0 win on Wednesday. A 3-0 win against Australia in their final group game was no consolation as the holders crashed out at the group stages.
