Spain have been at the head of the World Cup betting for sometime and despite an opening game slip up against Switzerland have remained towards the top alongside Brazil and Argentina.

The spanish have played some of the best football of the tournament and in striker David Villa, they look to have the most prolfic goalscorer in the competition, capable of firing the goals required to go all the way to World Cup glory for the first time.

From the moment the draw was made, it was known the Spain would face a tricky assignment in the last 16, knowing they would have to play one of Brazil, Portugal or the Ivory Coast . It has turned out that they will play fierce rivals Portugal, who finished second in group G.

Portugal qualifed with five points after two goalless draws and an emphatic 7-0 victory over North Korea and if they are going to give Spain a match in this game, they will have to be at their very best. Spain are the obvious favourites but given the geography and histroy between these two sides this is about more than football.

Spain v Portugal Odds

Spain are the favourites for this last sixteen clash against Portugal, but the Portuguese have looked pretty good in the group stages and are yet to concede a goal in the competition. Portugal looked the better side in the second half of their last game with Brazil and although we expect them to line up very defensively they have Cristiano to use on the counter-attack.

Spain Form

After losing the opening match to Switzerland, Spain bounced back with two wins over Honduras and Chile to top Group H. There will be a nagging doubt that Portugal will set themselves up very much like the Swiss did and look to hit Spain on the break.

Latest Team News

Vincente Del Bosque will be sweating on the fitness of Fernando Torres for this last sixteen clash on Tuesday, but the Spanish squad is such that there are a number of World class footballers ready to come in to the side in any position.

Portugal made four changes for the game against Brazil and it wouldn't be a surprise if manager Carlos Quiroz made a few more changes for this match in Cape Town.
