Italy v Costa Rica Betting
2014 World Cup - Group D
20th June - KO: 5pm BST -
Italy tend to raise their game when it comes to the finals of major competitions and they will hope that their efforts at the 2014 World Cup are no different. They will see a Group D fixture with Costa Rica as a perfect way to build on the 2-1 win over England and they are firm favourites for the match in Recife on Friday 20th June. A win for the Italians will ensure qualification to the second round, but as Costa Rica proved at the weekend with their 3-1 shock win over Uruguay, they're not a team to be underestimated.
The Italians easily qualified for the finals in Brazil as they went unbeaten during their UEFA qualification group and they made it through with plenty to spare. They have a tricky opening match with England to cope with in Group D but they will hope to secure three points in their second match of the finals against Costa Rica. The Costa Ricans impressed in getting this far but they are the minnows in Group D and many are tipping them to finish bottom of the group.
Costa Rica go into this match with Italy as underdogs with the bookmakers though. They have never played the Italians at international level before and it would rank as a huge upset if they got anything out of this game.

Head to Head
- First meeting at the 2014 World Cup
Mario Balotelli - Balotelli has become his country's talisman in recent seasons as he continues to weigh in with crucial goals. The former Manchester City man has always been a controversial figure but he has become a consistent performer since joining AC Milan and he could cause Costa Rica all sorts of problems.
Patrick Pemberton - The goalkeeper is always key when an underdog is bidding to cause a major upset at a World Cup and Patrick Pemberton's performance could be a decisive factor if Costa Rica are to stop Balotelli from scoring. Pemberton has become his country's first choice and he will need to put on a strong showing in Recife.
