2014 World Cup - Group D - England 1- 2 Italy
14th June - KO: 11pm BST -
England faced a tough looking task in Group D of the 2014 World Cup drawn with Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica and it's the Italians who were first up for Roy Hodgson's team on the 14th June in Manaus. It was a positive display from England but ultimately they came away with no points losing the match 2-1.
This could well be a cagey affair with both teams wary that a defeat in their first game would make qualification very difficult, especially with a talented Uruguay to come. The pair last met competitively in Euro 2012 where Italy came out on top in a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw. The Italians were hugely dominant that day and the deserved winners but England could capitalise on a sluggish start for the Italy which is often the case in major tournaments.
The betting is pretty tight between the pair, with the bookmakers' making Italy slight favourites to get their World Cup off to a winning start.

Wayne Rooney - Following a summer of uncertainty for Rooney following Sir Alex Ferguson's departure at Manchester United, Rooney has returned to the best of form this season and the forward will be integral to England's chances in Brazil.
Mario Balotelli - The former Manchester City striker can be a handful on his day and he's sure to be up for this against an English defence who could struggle to contain the Milan player. A repeat of the form he showed in Euro 2012 and Balotelli could be one of the stars of the World Cup.
