2014 World Cup - Group A - Brazil 3 - 1 Croatia
12th June - KO: 9pm BST -
The 2014 World Cup kicked off in Sao Paulo on Thursday 12th June, as hosts Brazil beat Croatia 3-1 in Group A. The hosts came from a Marcelo own goal behind to win thanks to two goals from Neymar and an injury time strike from Oscar.
This will be Brazil's first competitive game for a couple of years having qualified for the World Cup as hosts. Any worry that they might not be tournament fit should be put to bed following their strong showing in last summer's Confederations Cup where they beat Spain in the final. Croatia can be a talented side on their day but they really struggled in qualification, eventually having to come through a play-off against Iceland to secure their place in the finals.
Brazil will start the match as clear odds on favourites, with Phil Scolari's side also favourites to win their sixth World Cup. The pair have only met twice before, Brazil beating the Croatians 1-0 in the 2006 World Cup.

Neymar - The Brazilians will want to get off to a flying start and with all things going through forward Neymar, the Barcelona player will be key to all things good for the host nation.
Luka Modric - The Real Madrid playmaker could have a tough time against a Brazil side who will be bang up for it. However, if Croatia can get enough posession and quieten down the home crowd, Modric will be integral for the European side going forward.
