Australia and Serbia will meet at the Mbombela Stadium for this Group D match that is likely to decide the fate of both teams as they look towards the knock-out stage of the 2010 World Cup. This Group is one of the toughest of them all with Germany and Ghana also meeting at the same time as four teams battle for the top two spots which will secure their places in the last 16. Serbia look to have enough in this one to take the three points, they are a very strong unit who powered through qualification beating a team as good as France into second place.
Australia though are vastly improved over the last ten days and will fancy their chances of knocking over Serbia. The Aussies have lots of players with experience in Europe and will be looking to upset the odds against their strong oppoents but the boys from down under should never be ruled out. A draw will not be enough for the Aussies who only have one point from their two group games so far. A win however and a loss for Ghana in their game with Germany could still see them progress. A draw could also be enough for Serbia to make it to the final sixteen although a win would make it definite.
This is a tight betting heat with two reasonably even teams going head-to-head at the Mbombela Stadium. these odds are of course subject to change depending how the first two games go but at this stage it is Serbia who are expected to take the three points. The Aussies are not without a chance though according to the betting and are good value to pick up an unexpected win but the draw looks the better option against a tough Serbian outfit.
Match Day Squads and Key Players
With this match looking so tight in the betting any injuries to key men for either side could have a big impact on the final outcome of this vital match. Serbia have a very strong squad that is led by their Premier League stars in Nemanja Vidic and Branislav Ivanovic. If those two are fit and on form then they will be difficult to break down as they do form part of a strong defensive unit for the European team.
The Aussies themselves will be hoping to avoid any injuries to their Premier League contingent, they will need Tim Cahill and Lucas Neill to be ready to play in this one of they are to have a chance. Last time in 2006 Australia made it through to the last 16 and they are likely to need a win here if they want to repeat that feat in 2010. We will have our beady eye on both camps in the build up to the match and will have any news on injuries and suspensions as and when they become available.
