South American Nations at the World Cup
The usual supsects Brazil and Argentina have qualified for the 2010 World Cup but the latter only by the skin of their teeth under the guidance of Diego Maradona. The South American teams have a superb World Cup record, especially when the finals are played outside of Europe. They should also cope better than the top European nations if any matches are played at altitude which is a possibility.
Uruguay had to come through a World Cup play-off with Costa Rica to secure their place in the 2010 World Cup having finished fifth in the South American qualification.
