Oceania Nations at the World Cup
New Zealand qualified from the Oceania zone with relative ease before winning a far tougher play-off with Asian zone runner-up Bahrain. The chance for New Zealand to qualify for a World Cup has been made that much easier since Australia now play in the Asian zone. Although winning the Oceania zone is relatively easy for the likes of New Zealand, they're guaranteed a far tougher test when they face a play-off against a team from the Asian zone.

There's a rather complicated set up in the Oceania World Cup qualification. New Caledonia, Fiji and Vanuatu all qualified for this final group stages after playing in a preliminary stage. As group winner, New Zealand then played the next best to qualifying from the Asian group in a play-off. In this instance that team was Bahrain and New Zealand wound up 1-0 winners over two legs.
