African 2010 World Cup Qualification
Algeria joined Cameroon, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast and Ghana as the African teams to have secured qualification to the 2010 World Cup. South Africa of course will be present but qualify as hosts. The one remaining place was up for grabs to either Egypt or Algeria who faced each other on Wednesday evening. Having finished level on points in their group of qualification. Egypt won 2-0 against Algeria on Saturday to bring their points and goal difference level at the end of qualification. Algeria however re-grouped and a single goal secured the last World Cup place and travel south next summer for the finals.

Algeria upset the odds to take their place in the 2010 World Cup next summer after their 1-0 win over bitter rivals Egypt.

Cameroon netted a goal in each half to secure their safe passage to next summer's World Cup finals.
Togo v Gabon World Cup Result

Floyd Ayite's second half strike put paid to any chances the Gabon had of qualification to next years World Cup finals. The Gabon needed to win and hope that Cameroon slipped up in Morocco for them to qualify.

Nigeria overcame a scare in Mairobi to overcome Kenya 3-2 and qualify for next summer's World Cup finals. A double strike from Obafemi Martins spared the Super Eagles blushes and gave them a narrow group victory over Tunisia.
African Nations at the World Cup
It's a special World Cup for the African Nations, with the finals themselves being played on the African continent for the very first time. The Ivory Coast and Ghana will join hosts South Africa in the finals with a game to spare in qualification. There'll be some tightly contested matches in the final round of fixtures that's for sure.
