Sao Paulo, Brazil's largest city could lose the right to host games at the finals next year after news emerged that they are struggling to build the Mane Garrincha Stadium in time for next summer's event. The venue had been scheduled to host the opening game but that is now in doubt.
The latest batch of World Cup qualifiers took place in March, with England thrashing San Marino 8-0 but then only drawing 1-1 in Montenegro to leave Roy Hodgson's side still in second spot in Group H. The clash between Scotland and Wales ended 2-1 in the favour of the visitors at Hampden, but neither side could win their other games, with Scotland's defeat in Serbia meaning they now cannot qualify for the 2014 World Cup. The Republic of Ireland drew both of their games with Sweden and Austria to leave them in the hunt for a play-off spot in Group C, whilst things aren't looking good for Northern Ireland in Group F.
The next round of World Cup qualifiers are on June 7th, with the Republic of Ireland in action at home to the Faroe Islands and Scotland face a tough trip to Croatia.
